Looking at other projects that have used tent spaces, or as a focus of a project...

For children, this is a really simple, but nice idea to make an event special and a space unique. Having the permission to get messy and create something that big, could be quite an exciting creative opportunity.
Working with groups of children, it could be quite nice to divide the space up so everyone could have their own space with an overall theme or idea.
It could be a castle, spaceship, under the sea..anything!

"The art work took the form a circus tent. This was inspired by the artist John Goto whose New World Circus is an allegory of the occupation of Iraq within a travelling circus. Chrissie created the tent inside the entrance porch in St John’s. It had a knitted exterior. Knitting is a traditionally feminine craft (and knitted balaclavas were worn by the Pussy Riot protestors). The knitting was intentionally frayed so as to be liable to unravel- a comment on the progress of feminism and on the 2 year prison sentence given to 3 members of Pussy Riot.
The Tent’s interior was created from punk related material such as denim, tartan, leather and zips, pinned and stitched together. These are tough materials expressing masculinity and unisex qualities, thus inferring a female strength."
I think this piece might look a little obvious and the finish doesn't quite have 'finesse', but I do like the overall feel and idea of using fabrics to symbolise cultural views.

The author - Zoe went and did a review of what was on in 2012. It sounds quite a good round-up of the show.
What really caught my eye was a project/exhibit title 'The Unfinishable':

The idea behind this project is making something from all those lovingly started craft projects that have never got finished.
I like the premise of this approach - and making something of those things that couldn't be resolved for whatever reason.
What I really admire is the 'whimsical' nature of the Extravaganza Displays. I like the way in which it does feel quite carnival-like and made from lots of different hands.
