“Does anyone actually take this kind of art seriously?”
“Never under estimate the power of a big gold frame”
-Banksy
Banksy's usual witty but true remarks depict for me the 'Power of the Mount'.
It is amazing the transformation that the little piece of card can do to a person's perception of their work.
When it is being painted on the board with masking tape around it, they don't think much of it. But when it is 'displayed' it becomes more that their work. It becomes Art for them!
I experience a similar feeling with my work - at a point when it is 'finished' it becomes it own entity. I detach myself from it - I no longer own it or have influence over it - I can appreciate it now.
How can we prepare people for old age? And with it, possibly dementia?
