Experiences of Ageing
Lucy Lyons

This exhibition presents drawings and objects from a 2-year postdoctoral research fellowship by the London artist Lucy Lyons. Lucy uses drawing as a method for gaining understanding of unfamiliar objects and to develop greater insight into the familiar – in this case the sometimes overlooked everyday aspects of ageing. The drawing process involves being in the presence of objects and spending a significant amount of time looking at them. Lucy Lyons collected her research in large bound books which are displayed in the exhibition along with a single set of prints made specifically for this exhibition and a selection of the investigated objects.

These very sketchy, quick drawings seem to convey so much through a few lines.

I particularly was drawn to the idea that rollators are an essential and beautiful object.

I don't think that there is much beauty within mobility aides and objects to assist with everyday living. Perhaps this is another idea I would like to explore. Aesthetic beauty in the everyday functional objects.

The Drawing Room

"Drawing Room is the only public, non-profit gallery in the UK and Europe dedicated to the investigation and presentation of international contemporary drawing."

Centre for Recent Drawing
http://www.c4rd.org.uk

"Centre for Recent Drawing is London’s museum space for drawing. Since 2004 C4RD has provided a public exhibition space and exhibition series that is independent and non-commercial, and is a member of the Museum Association of the UK. C4RD is in the unique position of being able to provide a whole building dedicated to drawing - showing continuous exhibitions of a broad variety of drawing practice - and also be able to house residencies specifically for those for whom drawing is a core part of their practice."
